Acappella Harmonies

Do you love to sing? Even if you don't but are just looking for a social evening each week with tea and biscuits, then join us today!

We've moved venue! Originally two choirs, Acappella Harmonies in Appleford and AHA:Milton are now one - Acappella Harmonies. Same great music, same great people now in one venue. Find us at St Blaise Church in Milton Village.

Acappella Harmonies is an unaccompanied, community choir based in South Oxfordshire. Whether you read music or not, whether you think you can sing or not, there's no need to worry. All songs are taught by ear and repetition in a relaxed and encouraging environment. We learn and grow together, but if you prefer to follow the sheet music, the option is available.

As the founder of this choir, Charlotte manages all aspects herself, whether that be musical director, administrator, budgeter and more. Focusing on acappella singing, Charlotte aims to teach a range of contemporary songs to the group. Please keep reading to find out more about the group and the songs we have worked on!

Acappella Harmonies meets weekly on Monday nights at St Blaise Church, Milton. We rehearse from 6.30-8.30pm with a break for tea and biscuits in the middle. A weekly pay-as-you-go fee of £4.50 means it's accessible for all, or if you'd prefer you can pay £40.50 for a 10-session stamp card. This money goes towards the hire of the venue, music costs, refreshments, running costs and any additional extras.

In 2017 AHA (as we were known then) was formed as a fairly small choir, focussing mainly on 2-part harmonies. As time progressed we moved to 3 and 4 part arrangements. In 2018, Charlotte formed a similar group in Milton that focussed on 3 part harmonies. As a small organisation AHA and AHA:Milton were heavily impacted by Covid-19, so the groups merged, still visible in both villages and making use of venues in both. As a result the group's sustainability increased - boosting confidence and expanding the available repertoire without compromising standard! We have recently reduced to one venue, rebranded to match and turned St Blaise Church into our regular rehearsal space and concert venue.

Charlotte encourages the choir to suggest music as well as selecting it herself, allowing everyone the chance to learn a song of their choice. We sing everything from popular music to folk music to musical theatre songs and more. For a more detailed list of the music we have explored, please see click here.

Since conception, Acappella Harmonies is a point of pride both with Charlotte and within the village communities. It has resulted in continuing support from the Milton Parish Council, the Church and previously the Appleford Parish Trust in our early days and for the years that followed whilst we still met in the village. . The Parishes have provided the community choir with small amounts of funding to cover the cost of sheet music and support longevity of the group.
